CANAJOHARIE -- Joe Winsman struck out 12, walked none and allowed just one earned run in a complete game effort, and the Canajoharie High School baseball team used a five-run third inning to top Galway, 6-4, in Western Athletic Conference action Friday.
Winsman also went 2 for 3 at the plate with a two-run single, while Buck Anderson was 2 for 3 with a two-run double for the Cougars (1-1, 1-1 WAC), who rebounded from Thursday's 6-1 loss to Schoharie.

FORT PLAIN -- After a preseason filled with ugly weather, Canajoharie Cougars outdoor track and field junior Jordan Brownell said his club approached Thursday's season-opening meet against Fort Plain with some trepidation.
"I wasn't really sure if we were ready because it's been really cold and we've been inside a lot," he said. "But, for an overall team effort, we did really good. We worked our butts off today."

FORT PLAIN -- The Canajoharie Lady Cougars outdoor track and field team entered this season as one of the favorites in the Western Athletic Conference, and the club did nothing to dissuade anyone from that way of thinking with Thursday's season-opening performance.

FORT PLAIN -- In a wild one, the Fort Plain Lady Hilltoppers softball team prevailed against the Mayfield Lady Panthers, 12-11, last Wednesday in a Western Athletic Conference matchup.
