June 16, 9-11 a.m. — A rabies vaccination clinic for dogs, cats, and ferrets will be held at the Canajoharie Fire Department, Erie Boulevard. To assure the safety of other pets and people, dogs must be leashed and cats and ferrets must be contained in a pet carrier or box when attending the rabies clinic. Vaccination is available free of charge to Montgomery County residents, but open to anyone. Donations will be accepted to help defray program costs. For more information about rabies, contact Montgomery County Public Health at (518) 853-3531, Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
June 16, 8:45-11 a.m. and 10:45-1 p.m. — Area residents are invited to take part in two food-packaging events that will be held simultaneously in the Harry Hoag gymnasium and at the Canajoharie High School. Nancy Ryan, the pastor of the Reformed Church of Fort Plain and coordinator of the second annual Stop Hunger Now event, said one reconstituted meal package consisting of rice, soy, dried vegetables, and a vitamin packet provides enough food to meet the needs of a six-member family, so they won’t go to bed hungry.
Each food packet makes enough food for six people at a cost of $1.50 per bag, or 25 cents per person, she added, noting that a $25 donation pays for 100 meals.
For more information or to help, call (518) 993-4302 or (518) 673-3440. If there’s no answer, leave a message.
In order to donate to the cause, make checks payable to the Reformed Church of Fort Plain with the notation Stop Hunger Now (or “SHN”) and mail them to the church at 165 Canal St., Fort Plain, NY 13339.
